Greetings from the community foundation of south-central Kentucky:
The newly formed Lake Area Foundation will provide a welcome framework for giving in the ten county Lake Cumberland region that includes Adair, Casey, Clinton Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor and Wayne counties. As the newly elected Chair of the very first Lake Area Foundation Regional Board of Directors, I am excited to explore the many ways this new organization will benefit the region and its people. The possibilities are endless, limited only by our imaginations.
After a busy summer of planning sessions and meetings with foundation experts, this hard work culminated in the first meeting of the regional board and election of officers in September, 2012. The Lake Area Foundation will be housed within and staffed by Lake Cumberland Area Development District as a service to the region. What a blessing to begin with office and staffing in place.
We are blessed to have ten five member teams, called Local Advisory Committees, representing each of the ten counties to be served and providing one member to serve on the Regional Board. These fifty people are the “boots on the ground” to answer your questions, provide you with information and guide you in the creation of funds for many purposes. Options in the creation of a fund include Unrestricted, Donor Advised, Donor Directed and Scholarship. Staff stand ready to assist in this process and are prepared to answer all your questions.
Our website is brand new, with information being added frequently. Keep checking back for additional information, photos, even a video! Lots of things are in the works. Join us on Facebook to keep up with all that is going on.
Trust is very important as donors choose to create funds to endow special interests, organizations and causes. I have complete faith in the trustworthiness of our administering arm. LCADD is an established agency which has been doing good work in the region for over 43 years. The staff there is knowledgeable, trained and eager to serve. We reached out to and met with trustee banks within the region with a goal of giving options to donors. The Regional Board has plans to create an investment sub-committee, recruiting investors from throughout the region to set investment policy, review reports from trustee banks and generally oversee and coordinate investment of all funds.
The Lake Area Foundation Regional Board of Directors is made up of bankers, attorneys, physicians, business people and educators with a broad variety of backgrounds and experiences which will assure expertise in many fields and thoughtful governance.
We remain focused on opportunities and events that will positively impact our communities, and are thrilled by the possibilities the future holds. Join us today as we build for the future.
"For Good, Forever."
